Excerpt from Eulogy on Lieut. Col. Martin Scott: Delivered at Bennington, Vt, , March 3, 1848 Fellow Citizens, - The occasion upon which we have met is one of sad and mournful import. It appeals to the noblest, the purest emotions of humanity, and finds a response in every heart whose pulsations own the commonest attributes of human nature. We have met to perform the last sad offices which belong to friends, relatives, brothers and countrymen. Lt. Col. Martin Scott has fallen, - and his cold and voiceless remains now lie before us, to receive the last sad honors that his grateful and sorrowing townsmen and sympathizing countrymen can pay them. In the providence of that God who holds the earth in the hollow of his hand, he whom we delighted to honor and cherish in the holiest ties of friendship and brotherhood, has been taken from us, to sleep in the land of spirits. The paths "that once knew him will know him Ho more forever." About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
