Excerpt from Financing the 1964 Election, Vol. 9 Vast amounts of data regarding campaign costs and expenditures were amassed and analyzed for this systematic survey of political costs and finance operations at the national-level in 1964. This is the second report by the Citizen's Research Foundation of the financing of a presidential election, the first, Financing the 1960 Election, also by Herbert E. Alexander, was very well received, and we are happy to have been able to prepare this study, which updates and keeps active analyses and categories of data developed over the years by Professors James Pollock, Louise Overacker, and Alexander Heard, and by the Senate Subcommittee on Privileges and Elections (known as the Gore Committee) in 1956. The present study is another in a new series made possible under a grant from the Ford Foundation to the Citizens' Research Foundation. Other aspects of money in politics in 1964 will be reported in other publications in this series.
