Excerpt from Forty-Second Annual Report Upon the Births, Marriages and Deaths in the City of Providence, for the Year 1896There is always considerable delay in preparing the report on Births, Marriages and Deaths for the printer, due to the defective method prescribed by law for collecting the returns of births. It is always necessary to correct, compare and add to the enumerators' returns, so that three or four months must elapse after the first Of January before the returns of the preceding year can be considered complete.
