Giacometti in Paris

Angebote / Angebote:

Following his celebrated work Francis Bacon in Your Blood, Michael Peppiatt explores Alberto Giacometti's intimate association with Paris during its intellectual revolutions before and after the Second World War, including the many outstanding writers, artists and other personalities with whom he associated there. Not only did Giacometti find his place at the forefront of the artistic ferment that set Paris apart in the 1920s and again in the 1940s, he also partly shaped the way others came to see the city. His images - a Surrealist object, a 'Walking Man', a sketch of leafless trees - speak of a specific Paris at a specific time. His figures could not have emerged anywhere other than from the grey air and crumbling stone of the capital's humbler areas, nor could Paris claim its full identity without those images. From falling in and out with the Surrealists to finding his own voice and style, from his family life to friendships and relationships, Giacometti in Paris is an intimate portrait of an exceptional artist at an exceptional time.
