The author suffered from alcoholism for 20 years and entered AA at the age of 44. He quickly was attracted to the AA literature and became an active member of AA groups. He had a Christian background and found the Steps of AA would take him back to his Christian up bringing. The Steps led him to discover his real self and to accept himself as a child of God. He came to believe that God would do for him what he could not do for himself if he would do the work necessary to be come less selfish and willing to help others.
