Gottes Zorn in den Psalmen

Angebote / Angebote:

Ever since Marcion the dogma of the wrath of God has been criticized and been subject to very different interpretations. In the first section of this book, Stefan H. Wälchli introduces the reader to the various different methods of Old Testament exegesis since Paul Volz. He reveals that the wrath of God in modern exegesis is usually presented as the opposite of love and grace, whereby older interpretations usually tend to see it as part of the contract between God and Man. The question is whether these interpretations and classifications of God¿s wrath really suffice. That is the main theme of the second part, based on examples from the Psalms. There are three basic types of wrath. Using the Psalms as basis for his typology, in the third section of this volume the author puts them in the context of the ancient Oriental times and indeed the entire Old Testament. The three ways of speaking of God¿s wrath may be found here, and a fourth type sees wrath as God¿s reaction to violations of holy injunctions. In the last part of the book, Wälchli draws the theological consequences of his study: The wrath of God is not foremost the opposite of God¿s love, but rather one aspect of His righteousness. The wrath of God is, in the end, the expression of hope, inasmuch as the wrathful God is understood as the righteous God from whom all salvation comes. In this sense, the concept of wrath is indispensable for many Old Testament texts and in many cases the key for interpreting the experience of the exile of Israel.
