The difficulty of compiling a City Directory can hardly be understood, and is not easily explained, yet we believe the Directory for 1874 is more nearly correct than any of its predecessors.The Directory contains a great amount of information concerning the public, religious, charitable, and private institutions of the city. Which makes it a valuable present record as well as an historical authority.Every person should have at his place of business, or at his house (or both), a Directory, not only as a daily convenience, but also as a valuable re rd of local history.Owing to the increased expense of publishing the Directory, caused by the rapid growth of the city, we feel compelled to raise the price this year to per copy.While many of the business men of Cambridge patronize the Directory in a public spirited manner, there are a large number of others, who, While willing to get all of the benefits arising from the free insertion of their names under the various business headings, etc., do nothing towards sup porting the work. Many persons rely upon their neighbors' generosity by borrowing, others purchase a copy of the work instead of inserting their card in the advertising department. To such we take this opportunity to say, that to publish a first-class and reliable Directory, we need the pat rouage of every business man in the city.
