Excerpt from Haverhill War Record of 1917-1919, Patriotic Service: 4172 From Haverhill in Service The record of the boys abroad is worthy of note. Several boys from the city were awarded Italian crosses of war and merit. Several were tak en prisoners by the Germans and Austrians and while a few escaped most of them were held until after the armistice was signed. Quite a few Haverhill boys were cited in special orders for bravery. The first was Albert J. Quintal of 131 Gile Street, a member of Battery A, who was cited for gallantry in a battle near Seicheprey, April 20, 1918.
