PREFACE SHOULD like to take this opportunity of thanking the many residents in the county of Hereford who have kindly answered queries or verified statements of detail contained in this book. Special thanks are due to the Rev. Hubert Mallinson who contributed several photographs especially taken for it, to the Rev. Canon Bannister for looking over portions of the proofsheets, to the late Rev. Auustin Ley in the matter of the botanical notes, and to Mr T. Hutchinson in the paragraphs dealing with ornithology.
