Reading Broun you wanted to know him, knowing Broun you wanted to read him.Heywood was a great figure in contemporary journalism. I feel a warm glow of satisfaction when I recall that he came over to the World (the old World) to ask me for a job, saying the World was the kind of paper he wanted to work on. I put him on the staff and he held his job with the World longer than he did a job with any other paper, either before or afterward.To feel great friendship for a man does not mean you must agree with all his opinions. Heywood had the gift of making anyone he liked feel he was his best friend. I fell in that category, although there were many things about which Hey wood and I quarreled pleasantly.
