Excerpt from History of the Fire Department of the City of New Bedford: Massachusetts, 1772 1890 This history could not have been written but for the kindly aid rendered by some of my fellow citizens who have been at different times connected with our Fire Department. To all who have in any way contributed material for my use I tender my grateful thanks. The meagre and fragmentary records of the earlier years of the Fire Department make it impossible to give a complete list of all who have belonged to it. Consequently I have decided to give complete membership rolls for the following years alone: 1834, 1844, 1856, 1867, 1876, 1884, 1890. The names of persons who joined and retired from the Department during the intervening years are not given.
