Hollow Ground depicts a three-year period in Stella's life where she found herself unexpectedly entrenched in a psychotic marriage. Shortly after she married, she awoke to the realization that her life was slowly becoming shattered by her husband's unrelenting control and his abrupt change in character as intimidation seeped into her life. Subsequently, the negative momentum was catching up to Stella at every turn, causing physical and emotional deprivation that seemed to have no end. The uncertainty of her pending release would either kill her, emotionally deplete her forever, or lead Stella to a stronger sense of self.
