He has been teaching at Stanford University since 1993 and is a National Geographic Expeditions Expert. The author of more than 25 books and 100 peer-reviewed articles, he's a National Lecturer for the Archaeological Institute of America and a frequent featured scholar for PBS, National Geographic, and NOVA documentaries. Among his many books are: Hannibal, When Empires Clash, Ten Discoveries that Rewrote History, Olympian Visions: Mythology in Art, Caravaggio, Wine Journeys: Myth and History, and Greek Musings: Memories and Fables.
