By chilly Death from earth's bright winsomeness,
Who whisper now in his grey underworld
Of unforgotten kisses and vain sighs,
Of trembling hands that touch'd so tenderly
The dear, warm body in the Long Ago.
A little while and each of us must pass
Where these are waiting, where no horned moon,
Star-follow'd and benignant, pours o'er men
Her constant pity, where no sun looks down
And mocks endeavor. In eternal hush
There meet the old-time lovers, and the air
