The text of the remaining families was written by the author. In its preparation he is deeply indebted to his colleagues at the Dudley Herbarium of Stan ford University: Elmer D. Privilege to use figures from this work was granted by the New York Botanical Garden, and is hereby acknowledged with gratitude. Many of the original figures were drawn by Jeanne Russel Janish, but Louise Nash drew the Lupines, and Helen Edwards Bacon, Alice Baldwin Addicott, and William S.
