The Poem opens with the invocation to and the description and power of Imagination - her existence prior to the Creation - in Paradise, her in¿uence in tempting Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit in the confusron of Cam - in inspiring the angels wrth love for the daughters of Even - the Deluge - her power to overcome In the minds of men the threatened wrath of God - the subsidence of the Deluge - her Influence in producing Wine - in raising the tower of Babel - ih sus taining the Israelites to the land of Canaan, and inducing Pharaoh to pursue - her power through the past, In the dark ages, and upon the future - in the recollections of the mind - her In¿uence upon charity in dreams - several dreams described - the ascent of the mountain description of the feelings arising thereon her power in romance, and over the mlnds of men to thel'r death - ln promoting poetry, astronomy, painting, poesy - Science and philosophy - over the antiquarian - music - liberty - eloquence - in the suppressron of war, and hope of peace for the future.
