In the belief, however, that the poems possess decided merit, it has been decided to place them before the public, which will, it is hoped, appreciate them at their true value. The poems have been subjected to no revision or correction, but are printed exactly as they appear in the original manuscript. The editor cannot be certain that they are all in the final form which the author would have wished to give to them. This statement we beg the reader to bear in mind, that due allowance may be made for any inaccuracies. A portion of the collection has been published before in various periodicals, but the majority of the poems now appear in print for the first time.
