We were compelled, therefore, to concentrate our research mostly on Balguy's own writings and those of his contemporaries. The Bibliography attached to the end of this paper enumerates all Balguy's existing writings, all that has reference to him, all that directly and some that indirectly bear upon him. It exhausts, we believe, all the sources of information concerning him. Since this book is intended to be an account of his ethical thought, we have exclusively devoted the latter part to an exposition of his principles from this point of view, and have taken all pains to give an accurate account of his teaching.
