DorlandAs there is an apparent similarity between thoughts and conclusions contained in the last chapter of the Life and some of those appearing in the Preface, it may be mentioned that both of these were written at the same time without either of the writers being aware what the other was writing. Chronological order has not been strictly adhered to when the narrative seemed to require the grouping of incidents which illustrated special subjects.Nearness in point of time to the life we have tried to portray in these pages has necessitated either the entire exclusion or the curtailment of some of its incidents.
