Compare Abstr., 1902, ii, 546, 547, - In a voltameter containing only dilute sulphuric acid, the external pressure exerts such an in¿uence that as it diminishes a greater resistance may be introduced into the circuit, and there will still be appreciable electrolysis. The con~ centration of the acid scarcely modifies the intensity of the current required to produce appreciable electrolysis, but in this respect the in¿uence of temperature is very great.With pyrogallol in the voltameter, the effect of the external pressure is the same as without it, and the concentration of the acid has no in¿uence, but when a large excess of pyrogallol is used the cohesion of the liquid is so modified that the bubbles of hydrogen are evolved less freely.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
