Excerpt from Kant's Philosophy as Rectified by Schopenhauer Although Kant's discovery of the a priority of Time, Space, and Causality was as great an epoch in the history of philosophy as the law of gravita tion in that of science, and rests on a more solid foundation than a mere empirical induction, which is only valid as far as experience goes, it may be confidently asserted that what is true in the transcendental philosophy is still either totally ignored or totally misunderstood. The reasons for this are not far to seek. After the death of Frederick the Great, who was notori ously a free-thinker, Kant was threatened with ex pulsion from the University of Konigsberg, and compelled to discontinue writing, because the inferences from his philosophy were supposed to be subversive of religion.
