However, Chapter viii. Is a short narrative of his ascent of the White Mountain, in which, for reasons given in my story, I was unable to accompany him. Unfortunately his map, and notes of his observations for position during his solitary journey, were lost by a friend to whom he lent them.My thanks are due to Mr. C. W.
