There can be 110 permanent peace in a republican government which is not based on sound reason and justice, couse quently, if the cause and position of the General Government can only be sustained by force of 'arms, then' farewell to the American Republic. Does enlightened reason' therefore declare in favor of the integrity of the Union of all the States as it existed prior to the present unhappy condition of the country. Thts, after all, is the great question for the masses of the people of the seceded States to determine, and that m the end they will respond yes, I have no doubt.
