Excerpt from Letters and Papers Relating to the First Dutch War, 1652 1654, Vol. 6The unduly long interval which has elapsed since the appearance Of the previous volume of this collection requires both explanation and some apology to any members Of the Society who for any reason may have wished to see the Dutch War papers completed. The explanation is, brie¿y, the war, but for which Volume VI should have been ready in 1915. Moreover, besides involving a five years' postponement Of the work I had in hand, the war left me for various reasons with very little spare time at my disposal and, as members Of the Society know, one Of its results has been a considerable reduction in the Society's output. With several volumes of much greater interest and importance to be fitted into the reduced programme, it was not till three or four years ago that it came to be realised that it was high time to complete the Dutch War series, and it happened that then I found myself unusually busy with other things. It had also been decided to include in this volume the index to the whole series its preparation has naturally taken some time, while a further delay has been caused by the necessity for investigating certain criticisms which have recently been made on the accuracy of the translations Of the papers selected from the Dutch archives.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
