Brewster (1781-1868) was a Scottish physicist, mathematician, astronomer, inventor and historian of science. This biography of Sir Isaac Newton, who is recognized as one of the most influential scientists of all time, was first published in 1831 and is reprinted from the American edition of 1833. In 1855 Brewster brought out an extended memoir of Newton which embodied the fruits of 20 years' investigation of original manuscripts and other sources.
