But little alteration has been made in the daily entries of my journal, as I think that those who take a personal in terest in our welfare will feel more in accord with us as they follow us through our novel experiences, our little trials and difficulties, and, finally, through that one great calamity which cast so dark a shadow over our joys, if I retain it in the simple form in which it was origi nally written and to those who knew him whose bright life was at last sacrificed to his love for sport, I feel every confidence that at least a portion of these pages will produce more than a passing interest.
