When the Yankees pay a visit to Marsh Winds at the end of the Civil War, the fighting is over, but the consequences from that night change the family's destiny forever. With her sister's help Kate struggles to keep the plantation afloat by growing the crops needed to sustain them and selling antiques once belonging to prosperous Savannah families. But the gentile life the South has known has disappeared, never to return. Former Union officer Rafferty Ashmore returns to Georgia with his family to visit the grandmother he hasn't seen since before the conflict began only to discover she has passed away and her plantation home has fallen into ruin. Forced to rent a room at the nearby Marsh Winds, he sets about to restore his grandmother's home. Kate and Rafferty are thrown back into the battle that never really ended for either of them. Soon it becomes apparent both have secrets they're hiding, and an attraction they try to ignore.
