Daniel Corrie, First Bishop of Madras As the greater portion of these Memoirs of a loved and honoured brother, have heen derived from his own papers, it is hoped that the risk of representing him other than he really was has, in a great measure, been avoided. In making use, however, of such materials as were in the possession of the Editors, they judged it to be desirable to give somewhat copious details of their brothers earlier ministerial labours, because they conceived that it was then that the principles and motives by which throughout life he desired to be actuated were most severely tested. The Editors were of opinion, too, that whilst many of the particulars connected with their brothers earlier labours in Northern India, would be new to the great proportion of the present generation, these records of "the day of small things" could not be without interest and use to all who may be engaged in the work of Missions.
