I am not in the least doubtful that this book, like all others of its kind, as pre viously suggested, and despite the great pains bestowed upon it, has still many defects. An expert criticism will, therefore, be welcome at all times. But a number of. Complaints were raised about imperfections and gaps in the previous Edition which were hardly justified. They arose partly from too high an estimate of the very limited scope of a medium-sized dictionary, and partly also from an imperfect acquaintance with the practical arrangements of the book.
