Because this book in giving an account of an historic occasion embodies addresses which concern the early days of the town, it should be doubly valuable. With these objects in view, to preserve the early history of the town compiled with so much labor, and that succeed ing generations might know what the people of to-day thought of its early history, and how they celebrated its beginnings, the Executive Committee of the Bicentennial appointed the undersigned to gather the addresses and the facts of the celebration and to publish them in book form.
