In the Great Smoky Mountains, near Cherokee land, Nikki's junior year of high school ends with an unchaperoned pool party that ends with her innocence in question. A guardian angel appears and guides Nikki through the dark forest of her mind and rescues her from being attacked and kidnapped. Torn between running away and ending it all, Nikki battles confusion and depression, but the teen soon finds faith and support with a catholic Cherokee family.
