Excerpt from Oberlin Alumni Magazine, Vol. 36: March, 1940When I got back to the tent there was a little fire burning in the old stove, a fire so small that I couldn't warm my self by it. Jo, the mother, was busy mixing flour and water for biscuits. Ben was dressing slowly. The three younger children were still sleeping, clutching the covers tightly. They cried when Ben woke them. One baby had an eye disease. He couldn't open his eyes at all in the morning. They had to be washed open, sometimes they didn't open for hours. The family didn't know what was wrong. They couldn't afford a doctor.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
