The Pepper TreeThere's an ancient pepper tree in the park, and today I stop to take a closer look, and snap a photo of the deep shadows in its bark. Opening and closing my fingers on the image I took, I see a woman gazing at a horse, a snake with a long black tongue, a spotted toad I stepped on once. And there's the grandfather clock we never fixed - with no time left on its face.About the author:ALAN GOLDFARB is a graduate of Grinnell College and Syracuse University (MPA). He and his wife Arlene live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have three children. This is his third collection of poems, following the publication of Words Together, Words Alone (2011), and Said Or Unsaid (2012).
