It had become wet and windy, and it soon changed to blustery. The worst old tub of the many bad ones which convey passengers across the Straits to Calais lay bumping and straining at its moorings by the pier, and we had to wait and take our chance of a run or a plunge down the gangway on to the deck, amid a struggle of porters laden with luggage.
