Moreover, a knowledge of the antiquities of other nations is necessary, so far as these have any direct bearing upon any passage of Scripture - that is, the antiquities of those nations that came in contact with the Hebrews, either on account of race relationship, such as the Arabians, Aramaeans, Canaanites, Philis tines, etc., or through some political combination, such as the Egyptians, Assyrians, Chaldaeans, Per sians, Greeks and Romans.
