While you may have heard of the battle for Pearl Harbor, do you know all the facts about it? If not, then you're not alone. You may have wondered how the Japanese managed to destroy such a large naval vessel. It is important to know that there were two waves of the attack. The first wave involved the Japanese using torpedo planes, high-level bombers, and dive bombers. The second wave, however, did not include any torpedo planes. The attack occurred when Japan, which was allied with the US, was at peace negotiations with the United States. The Japanese did not want to fight on the basis of balance of power. They wanted complete dominance of the entire Asian Pacific region. It was believed that the Japanese were planning to end peace negotiations thirty minutes before the attack. As a result, many historians believe the Japanese planned to launch an attack on the United States only minutes before the attack occurred. The second wave of attacks was much less successful. Although a few of the U.S. battleships were sunk or damaged, the majority survived the attacks. Eight of the ships were lost or damaged. In total, 2403 American servicemen died or were injured. The naval base was eventually combined with another military property, and the American Navy no longer operates from there. However, there are still plenty of Pearl Harbor Facts available for those interested in learning more about this important historical event.
