If they meet with a favorable reception from the profession and the public, I shall proceed forthwith to the publication of a second volume. It is to the purely useful and practical of the subsequent papers that I would beg to draw attention. The prevention and treatment of diseases, the diagnosis and prognosis, &c., - these are the really important points. The suggestion of new remedies, and of greater caution in the use of the old, has also occupied my attention. In regard to the latter, I may mention my observations on the due use and on the abuse of blood-letting, and I may allude to a paper in preparation on that of calomel and other mercurials, which have become lamentably popular in very injurious doses.
