Excerpt from Report of the Glasgow Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Held in the Mechanics' Institution Hall, Canning Street, Calton, Glasgow, 3d July, 1853 President martin then arose and said Beloved Saints, - It gives me feelings of joy to meet with so many of you in this hall this morning. I have not had the privilege, since my return from the Land of Zion, of seeing such at numerous host of saints together, as is here at this time. I feel the spirit of the Lord to be in our assembly, and I hope it will remain with us throughout our conference. I feel the responsibility that rests upon me as an individual, and my own weakness to do those things that are required of me but I feel to have confidence in the God I serve, and I know that he will direct and uphold me. We have met in con ference this morning, for the purpose of doing Church business, and also to lay before you those things that tend to our eternal salvation.
