The decomposition cell used by Smith consists Of a small beaker (50 cc. Capacity), on the side of which, near the bottom is introduced a thin platinum wire. This wire is in contact internally with the mercury, which is introduced into the beaker, and externally with a copper plate, upon which the beaker is placed during electrolysis.
