Excerpt from Selections From The Works Of Jean Paul Friedrich Richter: Edited, With Introduction And NotesDuring these years of material prosperity jean Paul's pen was not idle, but Titan, Leoana, and other long works, as well as many satirical and political essays, some of the latter of the highest importance and interest, were produced. His restless spirit was satisfied by travel, although he never realized his longings to visit Italy and Switzerland. A visit to Heidelberg, in 1817, deserves especial mention. It was a genuine ovation for him and included the con ferring upon him, by the university, of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. His only son, in whom the father's hopes and ambitions were centered, died in 1821, while a student at Heidelberg. The father never really recovered from this blow. Eyesight be gan to fail him soon after and he became almost totally blind before his death, which occurred at Bayreuth, November 14, 1825.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
