SILICON VALLEY'S EMERGING MARKETS

Angebote / Angebote:

Silicon Valley's Emerging Markets' is an ethnographic study of corporate efforts to link the search for new markets with global poverty alleviation. Hewlett-Packard, a leading transnational IT company headquartered in California's Silicon Valley, was at the forefront of these practices in the high-tech industry, its flagship Corporate Citizenship programs in Silicon Valley, Costa Rica and India are the focus of this book. To analyze the emergence of transnational high-tech companies as Global Corporate Citizens, 'Silicon Valley's Emerging Markets' examines the historical and legal roots of corporate personhood in the U.S., from independence, to the emergence of the country's West coast as a major economic and technological center, to modern-day corporate forays into emerging markets focusing on electronic entrepreneurship. Paired with anthropological theories of citizenship and governmental power, this book presents a unique perspective that combines insights from the social sciences with on-the-ground research into a critical analysis of corporate efforts to harness the power of new technologies and business models for global poverty alleviation and bottom-line growth.
