A secondary purpose has been to place within reach of the class certain passages which for one reason and another are particularly deserving of the students attention, even though the topics involved have not proved particularly difficult of comprehension. As respects both of these objects, much more, doubtless, ought to be done. But this little will be better than nothing, and I hope to make it more nearly adequate in a later edition.
