From 1980 to 2017, soybean production in the world increased from 80.9 million metric tons (MT) to 336.82 million MT, and the soybean consumption also reached 337 million MT. The increase in demand of a diet rich in animal protein is the product of an increasing standard of living resulting from long-term rapid economic development. Whether used as direct feed for livestock, poultry, and fish or for direct human consumption, there has been a corresponding increase in the demand of soybean. In short, the production and consumption sides of value chains have necessitated the demand for more soybeans.
