They saw that it would tend to check so much of the movement in other parts of the world to demonetize silver as arose from an apprehension that it was menaced with a grave degree of depreciation. They saw that by adding to our metallic money it would aid in reviving our depressed trade and industries, and would facilitate the resumption of specie payments.
