Excerpt from St. Cloud Church The fortieth anniversary of the St. Cloud Church was so interesting that it suggested to me the appropriateness of having a consecutive written history. Everyone was pleased with the idea, but it seemed impossible to obtain definite information. Many who were familiar with the earlier details of the church have passed away, and the memory of the earliest inhabitants of the neighborhood is very vague in respect to the subject. If an accurate history were to be prepared for the benefit of those who come after us, it was imperative to do the work without delay. Fortunately, I had preserved all the newspaper cuttings, annual reports and monthly church calendars, and I decided to weave these fragmentary extracts into a continuous history. I can but say with Montaigne, "I have here only made a nosegay of culled flowers, and have brought nothing of my own but the thread that ties them together."
