Part of the text appeared in a series of articles in the engineer ing record, and when the demand for them seemed to warrant their' being published in book form they were thoroughly revised and considerable new matter added. A number of the illustrations have been selected from articles printed in the engineering record during the last two or three years descriptive of steam power-plant construction.
