Street Music is the story of Linnet Mitchell, a young and gently-bred New York girl, who marries Claude Mitan and goes to live with him in his native Paris. At first Linnet is enchanted by her new surroundings: the color and movement in the streets and cafes and in the small hotels that crowd the quarter combine to delight and bewilder the naive young wife.
But soon her delight becomes tainted, at first, by a vague unease, gradually increasing almost to fear when she realizes that, under the surface of the scene, are forces which have a powerful and estranging effect on her husband.
