Sie wurde ähnlich wie BoA und Shinhwa bei einem Talentwettbewerb des südkoreanischen Labels SM Entertainment entdeckt. Besonders erfolgreich sind sie in Südkorea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand und in anderen ostasiatischen Ländern. Am 26. Dezember 2003 lieferten TVXQ ihren ersten Auftritt in einer gemeinsamen Show von BoA und Britney Spears. Sie sangen ihre Debütsingle "Hug" und eine A-cappella-Version von "O Holy Night" mit BoA.
