Russell in England, first reported success in these cases by this mode Of treatment. The best known appara tus, however, are those devised and described by Gottstein (9) in Germany, and by Plum mer (10) in America. The essential feature consists in a soft rubber dilatable bag or balloon, covered by silken mesh or material and fastened on to a bougie.
