When light frosts persist for several days before subfreezing temperature, the mortality in succulent bolls is negligible, whereas a sudden freeze following warm weather results in a high mortality. Examination of green bolls after a sudden drop in temperature to 24° and 21° F. On 2 consecutive days Showed 98-percent larval mortality. Similar temperatures occur frequently in the colder climates of the infested area, where many bolls are green at frost date.
